Abstract

|
Purpose: To investigate opthalmic optics students¡¯ expectations of clinical practice and provide basic data for effective clinical practice management.
Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 219 students and analyzed statistically.
Results: The expectations of clinical practice had an average score of 3.76 ¡¾ 0.63, with the lowest being school related expectations (3.60 ¡¾ 0.62). Expectations decreased with higher student grades (p = 0.000) and higher expectations for students interested in ophthalmology (p<0.05). The general expectation and expectations related to practice institutions were high amongst open-minded students (p<0.05). The higher the expectations related to training institutions, the higher the general expectations. The main factor influencing expectations of clinical practice was student grades and these expectations decreased with higher grades.
Conclusions: Expectations of students¡¯ clinical practice should be reflected in the clinical practice and academic and industry efforts are needed to address the reasons that lead to low expectations.
